At ddh.co.za, we take your privacy seriously.
This privacy policy explains what personal data we collect from you, how we use it, and how we keep it safe.
1. Data We Collect and Why
Comments
When visitors leave comments on our website, we collect the data shown in the comments form. To assist with spam detection, we also collect the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. You can review the Gravatar privacy policy here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture will be publicly visible alongside your comment.
Media
If you upload images to our website, you should avoid uploading files with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Other visitors to the website can download these images and extract any location data embedded within them.
Cookies
To make your experience on our site smoother, we use cookies in the following ways:
- Comments: If you leave a comment, you can opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. This is for your convenience so you don’t have to re-enter your details next time. These cookies last for one year.
- Login Check: If you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
- Login Sessions: When you log in, we set up cookies to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen option cookies last for one year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. Logging out removes these cookies completely.
- Article Editing: If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie is saved in your browser. It contains no personal data, simply tracks the post ID of the article you edited, and expires after 1 day.
2. Embedded Content From Other Websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (such as videos, images, or articles). Embedded content from third-party websites behaves in the exact same way as if you had visited those websites directly.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content—including tracking your interaction if you have an account and are logged into that specific website.
3. Data Sharing and Destination
- Spam Prevention: Visitor comments are automatically processed through an automated spam detection service to maintain site security.
- Password Resets: If you request a password reset, your current IP address will be included in the reset email for security verification.
- We do not sell or lease your personal data to third parties.
4. How Long We Retain Your Data
- Comments: If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows us to automatically recognize and approve any follow-up comments instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
- Registered Users: For users who register on our website, we store the personal information provided in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (with the exception of their username, which cannot be changed). Website administrators can also view and update this information.
5. Your Rights Over Your Data
If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you have the right to:
- Request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any information you have directly provided to us.
- Request that we erase any personal data we hold about you.
